Mark Sikes normally designs in a traditional style, so it is exciting to learn he is the designer behind this contemporary New York City apartment. The curved window draws ones eye to the cityscape and the room is balanced by the calm color scheme. A neutral rug with a contemporary dotted pattern grounds the room. The lighting in this space is simple, thin brass lamps supplement the influx of natural light.
The modern, contemporary elements in the hallway keep the space eclectic and curated.
In the dining area, a large banquette makes entertaining at home simple—there’s plenty of seating for everyone; an extra special feature in a city apartment. The tables can easily come together or split up depending on the size of the group dining. Overhead, metal and brass light fixtures add a contemporary accent to the space. One might wish to add to the wall, for instance you could hang an expansive work of art above the banquette.
The classic white kitchen is a minimalist’s dream. The beautiful marble countertop seamlessly disappears into the backsplash. Brass hardware pops and makes a modern statement that pairs well with the contemporary cabinet doors and drawers.
In the bathroom, and interesting and subtle mirror makes for a top notch alternative to the traditional medicine cabinet. However Black is a neutral, accenting the hue with warm tones and an artful towel hook.
A serene master bedroom serves as the perfect retreat in which to relax and recharge. Simple bedding and accents allow a colorful framed piece to take center stage.
In conclusion, what a fabulous contemporary New York City apartment.
