When designing a room every element is considered, even the molding. Here are a few options of what one can do with it. Painting it an accent color can really make a room pop and enhance a wall color.
A way to have a more clean and seamless application is to paint the molding the same color of the walls.
This also tricks your eye into seeing the ceiling height as being higher than it is.
Or you can choose beautiful and traditional white molding.
I think the right look depends on the room, what look trying to be achieved and the owner’s taste.
