Painted Bookcases

An easy way to add in a touch of color or in some cases, a lot of color, is by painting an existing bookcase – either partially or in its entirety. You can update it and allow it to grow with the rooms design as the years go on by painting the back panels or completely reinvent it by painting the whole thing. It is an easy paint job that can be done in a day. Here is a bookcase I styled for a Charlotte client.

Anne Harwell (aka. Annchovie) did a fantastic update to her West Elm bookcase by painting the entire piece a brilliant Tiffany Blue shade. Click here to see her redo!

Two matching teal bookcases on either side of the fireplace create symmetry and focal points.

Here are a few in a variety of colors- a large bookcase painted a soft blue.

an olive green,

and a dramatic red and black bookcase,

This built-in bookcase is painted to blend in with the wall color and molding.

Stark contrast makes it the main event in this room. Spot the X frame too?

Are your bookcases painted? Do you love an easy update as much as I do?
