Part 1. Dual Purpose Rooms

A few weeks ago I was approached by a client who wanted to turn a room into a dual purpose room. What exactly do I mean by that?… The client wanted to design a room that would serve as a playroom day to day for her children, but also a guest room when visitors were in town. Great idea right?! It got me thinking about rooms that serve as a dual purpose or shared space for the home owners. Take a look at some good examples…

Here is a small cottage that uses one room as the kitchen, dining and living room.

Here is another shared space that has an open concept between the living and dining spaces.

A real space saver- turning a closet into a petit office workspace.

Office and living quarters combined.

A small hidden office and a guest room

The integration of a small workspace into the bedroom.

This open concept industrial style apartment maintains an airy open concept between the kitchen and living quarters.

In my follow up post, I will be showing you how I turned a clients room into a dual purpose space……

Stay tuned!
