Part 2. Dual Purpose Space & Murphy Beds

At this time the plans for the murphy bed are not available. I will repost when they are available. Thank you for your interest.

A few months ago I shared that I was designing a client’s room to serve as both a playroom and a guest room. It can be really helpful and a great space saver to have a room that serves as a shared space or dual purpose. A murphy bed is the perfect solution for a family that wouldn’t be using the bed on a regular basis and would love the extra space for their children to play. A Murphy bed is a pull down bed or bed that sits in the wall and is pulled down when you need it. When I was living in New York a few of my friends had them in their apartments. Here is a peek at the process and the result-

It’s a queen size bed and going to hold a regular mattress.

We did a test run with a mattress,

and I could see what it will look like up against the wall and the bottom will be a sofa.

I worked hard to get the arm dimensions just right so that the bed could close properly and the arms could be upholstered.

It’s getting fitted.

The cushions and arms were made by my upholsterer with a fun Dwell Studio fabric.

Here’s the finished project!!!

The pillows and decorative accessories are off,

but the bed is still completely made and totally secure inside the closed unit.

Dual functioning spaces can really solve problems in a home, and that’s one thing I love to do for my clients.

Hope you like it!
